Tradition That Works

Your time with Tyler is an evolving conversation. Each visit is an opportunity to learn more about how together we can help bring balance to your life and support your overall health with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and dietary recommendations. Tyler is dedicated to educating his patients and facilitating the healing experience needed for you to be present, inspired, and engaged in the world.
What to Expect
During your first treatment, we will allow time for an initial intake, during which a thorough understanding of your history and current lifestyle is assessed, and a traditional Chinese medical diagnosis is used to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs.

You can expect to talk with Tyler about your health concerns, giving some details of your health history and current symptoms.  Following this, you will lie on a table in a room that is comfortable, warm, and relaxing (resembling a massage therapy room). Typically, your treatment will include the insertion of very fine acupuncture needles, which are retained for 20-40 minutes.

Acupuncture
The healing science of acupuncture is known to be more than 4,000 years old and today millions of people use it as their primary source of medical treatment. Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles in specific areas of the body for therapeutic purposes. A tingling, or achy sensation is considered therapeutic. A treatment may also include electro-acupuncture, cupping, and moxabustion.

In the west, acupuncture is most well known for it’s effects of pain relief as it has proven anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. In practice, acupuncture is used for so much more. It’s scope is too broad to list here but some of it’s interesting uses include stroke , infertility, addiction, and nausea.

Movement and Breathing
Maintaining your physical health on a daily basis is essential. After evaluating your current exercise and relaxation routine, we may introduce various movement and breathing exercises. These include stretching and strengthening exercises, similar to yoga or Pilates. In addition, breathing exercises and meditation may be introduced.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are time tested methods of healing that can treat a wide variety of conditions including, but not limited to: sports injuries, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, fatigue, back pain, arthritis, headaches, gynecological conditions, allergies, asthma, digestive disorders and the common cold or flu.

Herbs
At Tahoe City Acupuncture we emphasize the use of herbal prescriptions. Herbs are safe, powerful tools to improve your health and speed the process to recovery. We have a personal relationship with our suppliers to ensure that our herbs are being held to the highest standards available. Current brands include Kan, and Evergreen. Some herbal prescriptions are only available online and may be shipped to your home.

Herbal remedies come in a myriad of forms and we will decide which is best for you according to your condition and lifestyle. Granules or powdered herbs are simply added to warm water and also sipped as a tea. Tinctures are distilled in alcohol and taken in small amounts with water. Tablets or tea pills are the most convenient, and often a good choice for those who lead a busy lifestyle. Finally, topical herbs are prescribed for external use only.

Lifestyle and Diet
Moderate dietary and lifestyle transitions are encouraged, and suggested. Concentration is placed on protecting and developing the digestive function so that you are better able to absorb the minerals and nutrients in your food, as well as the active ingredients in any herbs, supplements or medications that you may be taking. We also work to choose foods that will support the organ systems that are weak or overactive.
